Make animations

  1. Cut out the bottom section of the mouth and chin of the face with the craft knife. Place the cutout figure on a colored background and glue in place. Color the hole left by cutting out the mouth with a black marker.
  2. Set up your digital camera on a tripod and tilt the base so that the camera is facing directly down. Place the collage under the camera. You may need to pull some lamps close by the collage to ensure that there is enough light. Turn off the flash function of your camera. Check to see that the collage picture is fully in frame and in focus. Adjust the height and position of the camera if this is not the case.
  3. Place the mouth of the face back on the collage. Use the camera's remote control to snap a picture. Use a chopstick to move the mouth down a centimeter and snap another picture. Move the mouth down another centimeter and snap another picture. Move the mouth down once more another centimeter and take a picture. Now, begin moving the mouth up a centimeter and take a picture each time. This series of movements can be used in its entirety for each time you need to animate the mouthing of one syllable.
  4. Create a wink by taking a small oval off another color copy of the face with the craft knife. Cut out an additional half oval as well.
  5. Take a picture of the face collage in its normal mouth-closed state. Slide the half oval over the left eye to show the eyelid beginning to close and snap a picture. Remove the half oval and replace with the full oval to show the eye closed and snap a picture. Remove the full oval and replace with the half oval and snap a picture. Remove this and snap another picture of the face. Use this sequence of pictures whenever you want to make the face give a sly wink.
  6. Upload these pictures into Movie Magic or iMovie. String the first set of mouth pictures together by placing them in order, and save them as an animation file called "Syllable." String the second set of winking pictures together in order as an animation file and label them as "Wink." You can create animation files by opening picture files in iMovie or Movie Magic, and you will be given an option to import these images and animation frames.
  7. Create words or sentences by recording a voiceover track with your microphone within iMovie or Movie Magic. Drag the syllable clips above the track that contains the audio waves of your voiceover and string these together to create an animation of talking. You can drag the clip of the winking in and add it at the end of a sentence or after a punchline. Save the file as an AVI or Quicktime movie file and share it with your friends

animate pictures

How to Make Animation Photos

Animation could be defined as an illusion of motion created by displaying a sequence of images rapidly. The images could either be 2 dimensional or 3 dimensional in nature. The optical illusion, which is one of the important aspect of creating an animation result from a phenomenon called 'persistence of vision'. Creating a motion picture is the most common method to make an animation.

How to Make Animations?

Many different techniques or methods could be used to create your own
animation. One can either use the traditional technique, computer animation or the stop motion technique in creating animation. The following paragraphs provides information about the basic types of animation.

Traditional Technique
The technique was used for many films that were made in the 20th century. In the traditional technique, the first step is to make drawings for the sequences to be presented in the animation. These drawings are photocopied onto acetate sheets. The side of the sheet which is opposite to the line drawings should be filled with the assigned colors. These sheets are then photographed on motion picture films using a rostrum camera.

Computer Animation
The two basic categories of computer animation are 2D and
3D animation. The 2D animation is created either using '2D vector graphics' or '2D bitmap graphics'. Morphing, tweening, interpolated rotoscoping and onion skinning are the techniques used in 2D animation.

The technique known as 'rigging' is used to create 3D animations. Although many other techniques are used to create a 3D animation, rigging is most commonly used. The digital models made for 3D animation are manipulated with the help of an animator. The mesh is given a digital structure to facilitate easy manipulation.

Stop Motion
The stop motion technique too uses the phenomenon of optical illusion to create animations. However, in this method, real world objects are manipulated physically and then photographed one frame at a time. Puppet animation, clay animation, cutout animation are some of the types of stop animation.

Make Your Own Animation

One can easily create a GIF animation with the help of a software called '
Adobe Photoshop'. The image file should be set to 100 x 100 pixels and the resolution at 72 pixels per inch. The mode should be set to RGB color. The 'show layers' option should be chosen from the 'floating palette' of the 'Window' menu. To draw a picture, the stencil tool should be used. A duplicate layer should be selected by clicking on the layer palette's sub-menu arrow. The next step in the process is to click on the eyeball icon present at the bottom of the layer palette on the left side. The image is saved by selecting the 'jump to' option under the file menu, followed by clicking on the 'Adobe ImageReady 2.0' option. The image should be saved when prompted to do so. Animation of the image is done with the help of the 'show animation' option present under the 'Window' menu. Clicking on the 'show animation' option would bring up the 'animation floating palette'. The 'Make Frame from Layers' option which is present under the 'animation palette sub-menu' is used for the purpose of animation. The animation needs to be saved by clicking on the 'Save Optimized As' option.

The different methods and techniques mentioned above can be used to make your own animation. One can create cartoon characters and many interesting things by using the various animation techniques

Create a Stop Motion Animation

Stop Motion Animation with Pipe Cleaners

Stop Motion animation doesn't have to be hard. And you really don't need a lot of materials to get started with it. This tutorial is about doing stop motion animation with just a few basic materials and some pipe cleaners. Simplicity can be a big appeal when it comes to Stop Motion Animation and all you need is a little time and a small idea or a little story. This is a web based tutorial but I also have a video that shows you how I made this pipe cleaner animation and at the end of the video is the one minute short animation that I made.
Here is a picture of the little studio that I built to make my animation. It is simply a big cardboard box that I cut out. I taped a white background up in the back and I can paint this. I recommend you do this. Make yourself a nice little stop motion animation studio and put a paper background on it. I recommend you simply tape the background in place. This way when you do a different animation you can make a new background.
The pink base in this studio is a product called Foamular. It is a type of foam very much like styrofoam. If you can get some kind of foam for the base or ground of the studio. But if you don't have some kind of foam the cardboard itself might work just fine. Or you could put a couple of flat layers of cardboard right in there. I will show you why this base is important in this kind of animation.
